The A30 is the first completely in germany developed and produced custom short action

German Engineering combined with the HST-DNA. The result is the first German Custom Short Action, which sets new standards in several points. For example, the unique surface treatment that combines the advantages of black nitride and PVD coating, resulting in real wear protection. Or the world's first Trigger Hanger that does not increase the Rem. 700 footprint.

FE optimization - what is the benefit for the customer?

In the case of Action, these are optimizations whose goals are to increase safety and load capacity. For this purpose, the components are subjected to virtual loads in special programs and highly stressed component areas are analyzed and optimized accordingly. Optimized components can often withstand twice as high loads with only minor changes.

In the case of the A30, not only the bolt and housing were optimized, but also small parts such as the bolt catch, the cocking piece and the trigger hanger.

Plasma nitriding and PVD coating - what is it all about?

PVD layers are usually very thin, hard and slippery. However, these positive properties only come into play if the underlying base material is sufficiently hard. If this is not the case, the german so-called "eggshell effect" occurs, in which the hard PVD layer flakes off under load.

Black Nitride can lead to unpredictable coloration and does not meet HST requirements for coloration.

To avoid this problem, HST Actions are

plasma nitrated and PVD coated. This provides sufficient support for the substrate material, significantly increases the longevity of the components and also achieves a visually uniform surface.

Finally, the existing residual stresses of the nitrided surface layer have a positive effect on overall safety in highly stressed component areas .

Is the action stainless?

All surfaces of the Action are rustproof under normal conditions thanks to the PVD coating. We describe ambient air at temperatures up to 80°C and the effects of hand sweat and splash water as normal conditions. So all expected situations in shooting sports.

Basically, we recommend wiping the Action dry with a cloth after use in the rain or after exposure to spray water and re-oiling if necessary.

Lock time - why is it important?

The lock time is the time that elapses after the trigger is pulled until the primer gets hit. Within this period of time, unwanted processes on the weapon (vibrations and linear movements) can lead to deviations from the target. Therefore, the colloquial principle is that a quick lock time leads to more accuracy.

The HST-Action has lock time of 1.6 ms, which is very fast and is often only achieved if tuning firing pins are installed.

Adjustable striking energy - why do I need that?

The striking energy of the HST-Action meets the recommendations of well-known ammunition manufacturers for the minimum impact speed and energy to be observed. In addition, it is possible to adjust the firing pin assembly by simple modifications in such a way that the energy is reduced by up to 80%. The adjustment is made by installing or removing the spacers. Whether this adjustment realizes a safe ignition of the primers used must be tested in each individual case.

The adaptation is advantageous in that the opening of the bolt also becomes easier as the impact energy is reduced.

Trigger Hanger - what is it?

The basic functionality of a trigger hanger can be seen in the linked video. (The video does not show the HST Trigger Hanger!)

The special feature of the HST Trigger Hanger is that it is the only one on the market that does not increase the footprint of the action. This means that there are no restrictions on the use of chassis and stocks.

By default, the action is delivered with a trigger hanger. In the accessories there will be a set with several different trigger hangers.

Barrel Tenon & Headspace - what is guaranteed?

We have decided to publish a technical drawing with all relevant info. This allows us to offer maximum transparency to our customers - so you don't buy a pig in a poke from us. The drawing is intended for gunsmiths who manufacture barrels that match the action. The tolerances indicated in the drawing are guaranteed by us and refer to the coated action as delivered by us.

Mirage Band - are there provisions for this?

An additional thread is attached to the Action, which is intended for the installation of a mirage band. It is a 6-40 UNF thread.

Wire EDM'ed Raceways - what is it?

EDM means electrical discharge machining. With this process, the raceways are manufactured at HST. Alternatively, these could also be produced by profile broaching. For cost reasons, this method is primarily used by well-known large-scale manufacturers. To say in general that one method is superior to the other would be too general. However, in case of custom short actions manufacturing, almost all well-known manufacturers rely on wire EDM.

Extended Magazine Cut Out – what is there to consider?

The Action's magazine cutout is deliberately longer than the original systems. This ensures that calibers with a greater overall length (OAL) such as 6.5 PRC can also be loaded from a magazine.

This precaution does not affect the use of smaller detachable magazines for caliber groups in the .308 Win range. and .223 Rem.

Optimized bolt release - what has been improved?

The principle of the bolt release was specifically modified in such a way that the power flow is not directed via its axis, but via flat surfaces. This ensures that failure is not to be expected even in the event of improper handling. So we have taken all the precautions for years of fast repeating.

AICS Magazine – what is there to consider?

Basically, the HST Action is intended for the use of AICS detachable magazines. However, due to the fact that there is no standard that states how such magazines must look, we cannot guarantee that all magazines available on the market are compatible. Our recommendation is to use original AICS magazines.

Markings - where can I, as a gunsmith, place my marking?

There is an extra area on the bolt to which the necessary markings can be attached. There are already several suitable surfaces on the receiver that can also be used for this purpose. In principle, all bolts and receivers already have a unique serial number and the corresponding model designation on the parts. These markings meet the legal requirements for German CIP proof and can therefore be adopted as is.

A ficture for holding the parts during laser engraving can be ordered from us on request.

ÖNORM S 1200 – what is that?

ÖNORM S 1200 is an Austrian standard and contains specifications for the geometric design of firing pins. The firing mechanism of the HST Action complies with this standard.

Bolt handles – can I use aftermarket products?

Yes! The bolt handle attaches to the bolt with a 5/16 - 24 UNF thread. Common bolt handles that have this thread for attachment and whose outer diameter on the shaft is not larger than the original HST bolt handle can be used. Please note that an unsuitable bolt handle can lead to malfunctions - if in doubt, please contact us.

IMPORTANT: The HST bolt handles have an internal hexagon that allows assembly with the appropriate torque and thus without glue. When delivered, the bolt handle is not glued.

Tool-free removal of the firing pin assembly - what do I need that for?

With original systems, special tools are required to remove the firing pin assembly. This is not necessary with the HST Action. A bayonet lock allows removal by hand.

This means that cleaning work can be carried out quickly and easily. In addition, it is possible to make the gun temporarily inoperable by removing the lock.

Ejector - why does it look the way it looks?

This is a precaution that ensures that the cartridge does not have contact with the ejector when the bolt is closed. This prevents the cartridge from being pressed into the bearing and jammed in an undefined direction. This sustainably increases the precision and has no effect on the ejection of the case. The conditions are therefore the same as with many bench rest rifles.

Rem. 700 footprint - can I use any chassis for 700 systems?

The footprint of HST Action is similar to that of well-known industry giants. This ensures that all common chassis and stocks intended for the 700 system are also compatible. However, due to the enormous range of accessories, we cannot guarantee this in principle. Fact is that the HST Trigger Hanger does not affect compatibility.

If you find that there are problems when using a specific chassis, please let us know.
